Knitted in the Aran Islands since the 6th century, the unique knitting patterns are imbued with the prayers of women wishing for the safety and a bountiful catch for their husbands who went fishing in small boats on the rough seas.
This is an Aran knit vest from Wellnote with such an origin.

When making low-gauge Aran knits, it is common to use loosely twisted yarn called "roping," but while it has a voluminous feel, it tends to fuzz and has the disadvantage of being itchy.

To suppress the itchiness, we use a 12-count single yarn with slightly longer fibers.

By doing this, we can put more twist than usual to create volume and express a more three-dimensional knit fabric.

While keeping the basic patterns, we have made some arrangements to the silhouette.

To make the sleeves look neat, we have made them asymmetrical from the sleeve cap and removed some of the basket weave from the back sleeves.

The Aran knit is composed of a basket weave in the center (representing the fishing basket, symbolizing the success of fishing, that is, a large catch)
Moss stitch (pique stitch) is placed on both sides (symbolizing the moss-covered earth)
Small cable knits are made near the armholes (cable knits are literally ropes, so they also have the meaning of a lifeline for fishermen and bundling the harvest)
